Kolkata, August 24—In the ongoing investigation of the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor, six individuals, including former college principal Sandeep Ghosh and four doctors who dined with the victim, will undergo polygraph tests. The tests are scheduled as part of the probe into the crime that has shocked the city.
On August 23, the CBI presented the main accused, Sanjay Roy, in court, where he was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. Roy has agreed to the polygraph test, which will help in unraveling the case.
Protests by doctors in Kolkata have entered their 15th day, with medical professionals demanding justice and continuing their strike. The United Doctors Front Association (UDAF), Resident Doctors Association (RDA), and Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) have ended their strike, but many doctors remain dissatisfied.
The CBI has questioned 73 people so far in connection with the case. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has urged Kapil Sibal to withdraw from the case, advising against supporting the accused.
The CBI is investigating several aspects, including how the crime occurred without interruption in a seminar hall, and the malfunctioning door bolt found there. They are also checking CCTV footage to determine if anyone was stationed outside the hall and why no noises were heard from inside during the crime.
Psychological evaluations of Roy reveal he was addicted to pornography and had a distorted mindset. Reports indicate he showed no remorse during questioning.
The Supreme Court criticized the state government and police for their handling of the case, noting unprecedented negligence. The Calcutta High Court transferred the case to the CBI on August 13, and the Supreme Court has demanded a report by August 20. The next hearing is scheduled for September 5.
Ex-Principal Sandeep Ghosh has been interrogated for 88 hours over the past week, with ongoing scrutiny into financial irregularities during his tenure.
