In a disturbing incident in Amritsar, an NRI named Sukhchain Singh was shot twice in his home by two assailants on the morning of August 23. Singh, who was preparing for a gym session, was attacked by the intruders who broke into his house.

During the attack, Singh’s children and mother pleaded with the assailants, with the children begging, “Uncle, don’t kill Papa.” Despite their desperate pleas, the attackers fired two bullets at Singh before fleeing the scene.

Currently, Singh is undergoing treatment in the hospital. The attackers, who arrived on a motorcycle, initially demanded documents for Singh’s Mercedes car before opening fire when Singh resisted. The assault was so severe that the attackers intended to shoot more but were thwarted when their weapon jammed.

The police investigation, led by Special DGP Rajendra Dhoke, has already identified the suspects. Both are from Jalandhar and Kapurthala and have criminal backgrounds. A lookout notice has been issued to prevent their escape. The police have also registered a case against five family members of Singh’s deceased first wife, who had previously raised suspicions.

Singh, who had returned from the U.S. a month ago to care for his children after his wife’s accident, was also previously threatened with death. The motive behind the attack is still under investigation, but there are suggestions it might be linked to ongoing disputes with his first wife’s family.

Punjab Police Commissioner Ranjit Singh Dhillon has promised a swift response and stated that the full motive behind the shooting will be clear once the attackers are apprehended. Meanwhile, political leaders, including Akali Dal President Sukhbir Badal, have criticized the state government’s handling of law and order and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

The shocking video of the attack, showing the family’s desperate pleas, has added to the public outcry and calls for justice.
