iPhone Heist | In Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, a major lapse by police has come to light in connection with the theft of iPhones valued over ₹12 crore. The negligence in registering a complaint has led to significant action against three police officers. One officer has been suspended, while two others have been placed on leave.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjay Uike, action was taken by the Inspector General of Police for the Sagar zone, Pramod Verma. The officials facing action include Bandri Police Station Incharge Inspector Bhagchand Uike and Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajendra Pandey, who have been put on leave, while Constable Rajesh Pandey has been suspended.
The incident unfolded when the driver of a truck transporting a large shipment of iPhones contacted the police immediately after the theft. However, authorities failed to register a complaint based on his statement.
The driver claimed that the theft occurred on August 15 while the container was en route from Gurgaon, Haryana to Chennai. He alleged that he was drugged and gagged during the robbery.
Additional Superintendent of Police Uike stated, “We are verifying the transporter’s claim that around 1,500 iPhones, worth approximately ₹11 crore, were stolen. The manufacturer, Apple, has not yet contacted the police. I am currently on-site, about 35 kilometers from the district headquarters, and video documentation of the truck is underway.”
He added, “The container was traveling from Gurgaon to Chennai when the robbery began in the neighboring district of Narsinghpur. A case will be registered as soon as the preliminary investigation is completed. Meanwhile, further investigation into the incident is ongoing.”
