In Panipat, Haryana, a court has sentenced a man to 20 years in prison for molesting a 4-year-old girl. The additional district and sessions judge, Sukhpreet Singh, also imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on the convicted neighbor. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional three years of imprisonment. The court reached its decision after 20 months of hearings and testimonies from 12 witnesses.
The case dates back to December 20, 2021, when a woman from a village in the Bapoli police station area reported the incident. She had left for the fields to collect firewood, leaving her daughter at home.
Upon returning after about an hour and a half, she found her daughter crying and learned that their neighbor, Pintoo, had taken her to his home and molested her. When the woman confronted Pintoo’s family, she was verbally abused.
The woman then reported the crime to the police, who arrested Pintoo on December 21, 2021. Pintoo confessed to the crime during questioning.
