The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is facing significant internal unrest as several prominent leaders have resigned in response to dissatisfaction with ticket distribution for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections.
On Saturday, former Haryana minister Bachan Singh Arya resigned from the BJP. Arya, who hails from Safidon in Jind, expressed his displeasure with the party’s decision to award an assembly ticket to rebel JJP legislator Ramkumar Gautam. Arya resigned from both his primary membership and his position in the state working committee. He had hinted at his resignation in a social media post earlier this week.
Arya’s resignation follows that of Haryana Cabinet Minister Chaudhary Ranjit Singh Chautala, who stepped down on September 5. Chautala was upset over the BJP’s decision not to field him from the Rania constituency, instead selecting Sheeshpal Kamboj for the seat.
In another blow to the party, BJP legislator Laxman Nappa from Ratia also resigned from the party’s primary membership. Nappa was denied a ticket for the upcoming elections, which led him to write a resignation letter to state party chief Mohan Lal Bhadoli shortly after the BJP released its list of 67 candidates.
The BJP’s internal discontent is further highlighted by the situation with Haryana BJP OBC Morcha President Karan Dev Kamboj. Kamboj reportedly refused to meet with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who visited his home for a meeting. Kamboj, who was unhappy about not receiving a ticket for the Indri assembly seat, has resigned from all party positions. He has criticized the BJP for ignoring him and stated that he will decide his next steps based on the advice of his supporters.
The BJP’s decision to exclude nine sitting legislators from its first list of candidates for the Haryana elections has intensified the internal strife within the party. The growing discontent among leaders reflects broader challenges for the BJP as it prepares for the upcoming polls.
