In a notable political shift, Aditya Chautala, formerly with the BJP and grandson of the late Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal, has joined the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). On Sunday, Aditya, who previously served as the BJP district president and chairman of the Haryana Marketing Board, announced his candidacy for the Dabwali seat on an INLD-BSP ticket in the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections.
Aditya’s move follows his exclusion from the BJP’s initial list of candidates. After resigning from his Haryana government position, he sought support from INLD leader and former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala and was officially inducted into the party by Abhay Chautala.
In Dabwali, Aditya will face strong competition from his relatives, including Digvijay Chautala of the JJP and Amit Sihag of the Congress, who had defeated him in the 2019 elections.
Abhay Chautala criticized Ajay Chautala and his wife Naina Chautala for abandoning Dabwali and betraying Om Prakash Chautala for personal gain. He also condemned the BJP, accusing the party of exploiting individuals for its own benefits and then discarding them. Abhay emphasized that it is time to hold the BJP accountable.
Aditya, who joined the BJP in 2014, was appointed chairman of the Haryana State Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank in 2019. However, his connection with the party weakened after losing the 2019 election. He formally ended his association with the BJP by resigning from his government position on Thursday.
This development adds a new dimension to the political landscape in Dabwali, where the Chautala family will now be competing against each other in the elections.
Background: Aditya Chautala is the son of Jagdish Chautala, the youngest son of the late Devi Lal. Unlike his brothers—Om Prakash Chautala, Pratap Chautala, and Ranjit Singh—who pursued political careers, Jagdish Chautala remained outside the political arena, contributing by managing Devi Lal’s correspondence and driving his vehicle. Now, Aditya is stepping into the political scene himself.
