Test Cricket | In a thrilling start to the first Test match against Bangladesh at Chennai, India ended the first day with a strong total of 339 runs, losing 6 wickets. The team faced early challenges, collapsing to 144 for 6, but a remarkable partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja turned the tide. Together, they built an unbeaten partnership of 195 runs, showcasing resilience and skill.

Ravichandran Ashwin, playing on home ground, scored an impressive century, finishing the day with 102 runs. He completed his sixth Test century with a single off the third ball of the 74th over. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja contributed significantly, remaining not out at 86, marking his 21st Test fifty.

Other notable performances included Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 56 runs, and Rishabh Pant, who added 39 runs to the scoreboard. Captain Rohit Sharma and star batsman Virat Kohli struggled, both dismissed for just 6 runs, while opener Shubman Gill failed to open his account.

Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud emerged as a standout bowler, taking 4 wickets, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Nahid Rana each claimed one wicket.

Day One Highlights

The first session of the day was mixed, with Bangladesh’s pace attack putting pressure on the Indian batsmen through bounce and swing. Hasan Mahmud made early breakthroughs, sending Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli back to the pavilion with the team’s score at just 35. Jaiswal and Pant’s subsequent partnership helped stabilize the innings, bringing the score to 88 for 3 by lunch.
