Gopal Kanda, a prominent politician in Haryana, may be facing significant hurdles due to his fluctuating alliances with the BJP and INLD. Workers from both parties are distancing themselves from his campaign, and Kanda’s shifting statements have led to growing confusion and frustration among BJP members.
Gopal Kanda Faces Backlash –
Kanda hoped to secure support from the INLD’s voter base in villages near Sirsa, but this seems unlikely due to his affiliation with the BJP. His inconsistent statements, particularly after receiving BJP’s backing, have created tensions within the party. Initially, Kanda had publicly stated that he did not seek BJP’s support, which further alienated BJP workers, who have now distanced themselves from his campaign.
Even though the BJP fielded its own candidates in the constituency, local leaders within the party remain unhappy and have refrained from supporting Kanda. It is important to note that in the last election, Kanda narrowly won by 603 votes against independent candidate Gokul Setia. However, with Setia now joining Congress, Kanda is facing a tough competition this time around.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP received support from Kanda but only led in one assembly segment. If Congress performs well, as it has in the past, Kanda’s political journey could face serious challenges. Additionally, many INLD workers, who are already upset with the BJP, have chosen to stay away from Kanda’s campaign, making the election battle harder for the Kanda brothers.
After initially deciding to contest the elections independently, Kanda later received unexpected support from INLD. Subsequently, the BJP withdrew its candidate in favor of Kanda. This move has created friction between the INLD and BJP, with INLD continuing to criticize the BJP while also backing Kanda.
This political shuffle has provided opposition parties, including Congress and the JJP, with an opportunity to mock the situation. Former Haryana Deputy CM, Dushyant Chautala, took a jab at the alliance, sarcastically commenting on the chaotic situation through his X (formerly Twitter) account.
The controversy surrounding Kanda’s shifting statements and the BJP’s internal discord has fueled opposition attacks. Congress and the JJP are calling the situation a “silent alliance” between INLD and BJP. INLD, however, denies these claims, arguing that Congress is deliberately spreading misinformation to gain votes. According to INLD, the real contest is against both Congress and the BJP, and they are confident of forming the government.
Despite all this, Kanda’s association with the BJP has placed INLD in a difficult position, as it is now under pressure to explain its alliance with Kanda to voters who are against both BJP and Congress.
