In a notable political development, Kiran Chaudhary has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Haryana. On Tuesday, the Returning Officer Saket Kumar officially presented her with the Rajya Sabha seat certificate, confirming her appointment.

This appointment follows Chaudhary’s recent switch to the BJP from the Congress party, a move made just two months prior. The BJP had announced her candidacy on August 20, and she filed her nomination the following day, in the presence of Chief Minister Nayab Saini. With no candidates from the Congress or other opposition parties, Chaudhary’s path to the Rajya Sabha was secured without contest.

Chaudhary’s election fills a seat previously held by Congress leader Deepender Hooda, who resigned earlier this year. The seat became vacant as Hooda moved on to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Rohtak.

The nomination process for the Rajya Sabha began on August 14, with the final date for submissions being August 21. Today, August 27, marked the deadline for any potential withdrawal of nominations. Since Chaudhary was the only candidate, no voting was required.

In her statement, Chaudhary expressed her gratitude to the BJP leadership and committed to raising Haryana’s issues in the Rajya Sabha. This appointment fulfills a long-standing ambition of hers, which had been thwarted 20 years ago due to political maneuvering by then-INLD leader Om Prakash Chautala.

Chaudhary’s rise to the Rajya Sabha is a significant moment, reflecting both her personal political journey and the current dynamics within Haryana’s political landscape.
