Shibani Dandekar, who married Farhan Akhtar in 2022, recently opened up about the trolling she faced after their relationship became public. In an interview on Rhea Chakraborty’s podcast “Chapter 2,” she discussed how people labeled her a “gold digger” and their marriage as “love jihad.”
“I Am Not a Gold Digger”
Shibani clarified that the negative comments started when she began dating Farhan. “What could I do? Should I cry because people are saying such things about me?” she said, asserting that she is not a gold digger. She highlighted their different religious backgrounds, stating, “The truth is he is Muslim and I am Hindu. We got married and are happy in our lives. People can say whatever they want, but this is our reality.”
Shibani emphasized that she focuses on living a positive life despite the negativity. “People comment about me, questioning who I was before marrying Farhan. I won’t sit and dwell on those comments,” she added, indicating that she chooses not to let the negativity affect her.
Their Relationship Journey
Farhan and Shibani got married on February 19, 2022, in Khandala after being in a relationship for about four years. The couple lived together before officially announcing their relationship in 2018. This marks Farhan’s second marriage; he was previously married to hairstylist Adhuna, with whom he has two daughters. Farhan and Adhuna divorced in 2017.
In conclusion, Shibani’s remarks reflect her determination to rise above online trolling and focus on her happiness with Farhan.
